For those recovering from addictions, holidays pose an even greater threat of relapse, says Jana Morris, founder and director of the Bangor-based addiction treatment center Recovery Revolution.

That's why Morris organizes an annual event known as Recovery Day on St. Patrick's Day to help promote healthy addiction-treatment habits.
"St. Patrick's Day is a high-risk holiday for relapse and we found that when we plan events around holidays, we're able to provide a safe place for our clients and their families," Morris said.
Recovery Day, now in its sixth year, will feature an all-day lineup of events beginning at 1 p.m., ranging from guest speakers to prize-drawings.

Author and motivational speaker Kesha Stowe-Spence will discuss the importance of strength and hope in the recovery process.

Stowe-Spence, a Stroudsburg resident, is a third-generation survivor of domestic violence and founder of the Elizabeth Mae Eaddy Organization, a nonprofit organization dedicated to allocating funds for community agencies which provide services to domestic violence victims.
"Abuse comes in many forms," Stowe-Spence said. "I just feel like it's important for me to bring awareness to this issue ... so I can tell my story and help other victims. I do consider myself to be one of the lucky ones."
Recovery Day, which will take place at Recovery Revolution's offices, will feature food and refreshments and is free and open to the public.
"It's a fun day but there's also a lot of pertinent information," said Morris. "It's a day of hope, really."
